Local ‘Dragnet’: Names changed to protect the wasteful
0 Comments | Palm Beach Post, Sep 1, 2010 | by Frank Cerabino
News item: The Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority may make recycling mandatory.
“We estimate by our drive-throughs that curbside single-family compliance is about 70 to 75 percent,” said John Archambo, the authority’s recycling director.
The authority is studying communities that have mandatory recycling laws, and seeing how and whether that might work.
The music swells. The Dragnet theme.
Dah-da-da-dan … Dah-da-dan-dan-daaaah …
In the county of palms, the trees aren’t the only shady things around. That’s where I come in.
My name is Friday, Joe Friday. I wear a badge.
10 a.m. Tuesday. I was working out of homicide. The lieutenant called me into his office.
“You’re being reassigned, Friday.”
“Friday?”
“No, today. From now on, you’re on the Red Squad.”
“How’s that?”
“The Red Squad. As in RED. Recycling Enforcement Division.”
Dah-da-daaah … Dah-da-da-da-daaah …
Woman looks like trouble
Narrator: There are 10,000 homes that don’t recycle in the big city. This is about one of them. This story is dedicated to the men and women who enforce compliance. The fine men and women of … the Red Squad.
Dah-dah-daaah … Dah-da-da-da-daaah …
11:25 a.m. See the woman, single-family home.
“The name’s Friday. Joe Friday. I carry yellow and blue buckets.”
“Listen, if this about tree trimming, we have a guy.”
“Ma’am, I noticed that this is trash day in your neighborhood, and while you have garbage waiting for pickup in front of your house, I don’t see any recycling buckets.”
Not recycling is a real slap in face
“If you’re trying to sell me something …”
“Ma’am, I’m going to need to take a look at your cans.”
She slaps Friday in the face. He rubs his reddened jaw before speaking slowly.
“The two at the curb.”
Then he hands her papers explaining the mandatory recycling program, and a facsimile copy of a letter from the county commission authorizing inspections and fines.
She reads them quickly. She’s suddenly nervous. She goes to hand the stack of papers back to Friday

It`s okay to write some sentences and some words in all caps, but don`t go overboard. (As you can see in this message, I`ve tried to use capital letters to help break up sections of the content from time to time).
Remember that consumers buy from a source they trust. Emails in all caps are perceived as “shady” or uneducated, and have an appearance that damages the credibility of an offer.
RULE #3 – WATCH YOUR Ps & Qs (Spelling and Grammar)
Would you be influenced by an email selling you something that had noticeable spelling and grammar mistakes? Sure you would…and the influence would be negative, not positive! When a consumer reads a sales message that`s filled with errors, they think to themselves, “Good grief, this person doesn`t even take the time to get his emails right.

So if you are angry with someone or some event, how can you communicate compassionately?
Communicating anger compassionately requires a two step process. The first step involves communicating with yourself so that you understand the spiritual significance of your anger. The second step is expressing your anger compassionately involves getting your needs met without harming others. It also means forgiving others.
Step I: Communicate with yourself by reframing your anger. Instead of blaming the other person or event when you are angry, ask the question, ?What is my anger teaching me about myself?? You need to shift the negative focus off the ?other? person or event and direct the questions to yourself. In fact you can harness this very powerful energy and use it for healing in the broadest sense of the term. Think of your anger as a doorway to some virtue that you need to learn. It could be that you need to learn personal responsibility, a greater sense of self-esteem, compassion or creativity. Anger is a barometer that can help you assess where you need to do spiritual work on yourself.
If for example you are angry because you have been abused in a relationship the message of your anger could be that you need to stop being a victim.

Hessan sees going above and beyond as a reciprocal arrangement. ?If you try to go above and beyond for your employees, they?ll do it in return,? she said. One highly valued aspect of working at Communispace is flexible scheduling. While employees work an average of 62 hours a week at this young company, they can do it on their own schedules, and many will choose to work three to four long days a week rather than meet a standard Monday through Friday, 9 to 5 schedule. While Hessan acknowledges that this is difficult to manage, she knows that employees really appreciate the ability to manage their own time.
Back from the Brink: Sustaining Your Organization Through Innovation
Pay Plus Benefits, a professional employment organization in Kennewick, WA, is very different from Go2Call.com, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecommunications firm in Evanston, IL, but the two organizations have two things in common: Their leaders have been honored as Best Bosses, and both organizations have faced business challenges that would have overwhelmed lesser ventures.
John Heaton, president of Pay Plus Benefits, shared lessons he gleaned from turning his organization around from a devastating situation: losing their five largest, most profitable clients in one month through acquisition.

A person can spend weeks trying to determine the correct price for their products and services. Economists have many formulas to determine price elasticity, market demand, and cost shifting. All of these economic formulas can be helpful, but are very time consuming and sometimes require hiring a consultant.
There are some easier ways to go about setting prices. Once you have determined a ‘ballpark’ price that covers your costs, you can begin adjusting it up or down to maximize profits. A relatively new concept that is garnering a great deal of attention from businesses big and small is the concept of price popularity.

The cool thing about these kit cars is that they allow you to build a working, drivable vehicle using the body you get from a replicar company and a regular drivetrain and engine that you can get parts for anywhere.
When you build your own sports car it not only gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment but it also gives you a much stronger connection to the car and since you are the one that built it you know what it is capable of and not capable of. When you take your time and build one of these correctly you can actually end up with a higher quality vehicle than one bought from an automaker because of the time and attention to detail that you put into the project.
Another great point is that you can find lots of support both online and off in the replicar community. These people are usually very close nit and open to helping and sharing ideas and tips.
